Life Story of Jeff Bezos- Born & Education 

Jeff Bezos (Jeffrey Preston Bezos) was born on January 12, 1964, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the U.S. When he was born, his mother was only 17 years old and his father was 19. After some days of his birth, his parents were divorced and his mother married again.

So, it’s easy to assume that the early life of Jeff Bezos was not so good. He faced a lot of obstacles at an early age in his life. After a lot of struggles from childhood to the present, today he is established as a successful person. Now he is 57 years old.

Jeff Bezos has had a lot of interest in science and technology since childhood. When the family of Jeff Bezos moved to Miami, Florida, where he attended Miami Palmetto High School. In 1982, when he was in high school, he was Winner National Merit Scholar and a Silver Knight Award.

After graduating from college in 1986, Jeff Bezos started his career at Fitel, a fintech telecommunications start-up. From 1988 to 1990, he worked in the banking industry when he became a product manager at Bankers Trust.

History of Amazon 

In 1994, Jeff Bezos resigned from D. E. Shaw & Co and established  Amazon as an online bookstore. Though initially the new company of Bezos was named Cadabra, later it was changed to Amazon. Jeff Bezos bravely invested about $300,000 in Amazon where there was a 70% chance that Amazon would fail.

Jeff Bezos had always planned to expand Amazon from an online store to other products. And after three years of founding Amazon, he took it public with an initial public offering (IPO). 

 

In 1998, Amazon expanded to sell music and video and at the end of this year, also added a variety of other consumer goods. In 2000, Bezos borrowed $2 billion from banks to invest in Amazon, and in 2002 Amazon launched a web service.

But unfortunately in this, Amazon faced financial distress from rapid spending when revenues stagnated. To protect from bankruptcy, Jeff Bezos closed the distribution centers and laid off 14% of the Amazon workforce. By doing this, Amazon rebounded from financial instability and turned a profit of $400 million in 2003.

In 2007, Amazon launched an online book-reading service named Amazon Kindle. Amazon was appropriate as the largest online shopping retailer in the world, in 2013. In 2016, Jeff Bezos sold some shares of his holding of Amazon and in 2018 Bezos began to sell stock to raise cash for other enterprises named Blue origin

Now Amazon has speed all over the world as the world’s largest online shopping platform. Jeff Bezos was the CEO (chief executive officer) at Amazon till February 2021.

Bezos announced that he would step down from CEO of Amazon and become the Executive Chair of the Amazon Board. Nowadays, Andy Jassy is the chief executive officer (CEO) of Amazon.

Jeff Bezos established Amazon and some other enterprises. Such as Blue origin, which is a space travel agency, and The Washington Posts, a popular newspaper. Jeff  Bezos invests in his personal finance as venture capital and his financial firm name is Bezos Expeditions. Bezos established an organization named ‘Day 1 Fund’ that is responsible for providing shelter and hunger support. “No child sleeps outside” is the motto/vision of this organization.   

Earning and Recognition:

In 2017, on 27th July, Bezos became the wealthiest person and surpassed Bill Gates with his estimated net worth of $90 billion. Forbes formally designated JeffBezos as the wealthiest person in the world on 6th March 2018.
